What is Microbiology?

Microbiology is the study of microorganisms, including fungi, bacteria, viruses, and certain types of parasites. These infectious agents are too small to be seen with the naked eye. Microbiology covers important areas such as virology, mycology, and parasitology. It also encompasses the study of viruses that may not technically be classified as living organisms but contain genetic material. Microbiology research explores the behavior, ecology, evolution, and pathology of diseases caused by these microorganisms.

IIIS offers a four-year BS Microbiology degree program. The fundamental concepts and knowledge are imparted through a series of core courses, together with advanced electives that have been carefully selected in light of the core applications of microbiology. The courses are developed for the students to understand advanced microbiology techniques, conduct laboratory and literature-based research, and develop the concepts and skills necessary for the workplace.

GENERAL & DISCIPLINARY RULES

  1. Students should have a sense of pride in being a student of this institute and show respect towards their seniors.
  2. Students who wish to transfer from this institute to another institute must apply within ten days of completing their Board/University Examinations. After ten days, they will be required to pay the full fee for clearance.
  3. Students are expected to use polite and respectful language and behave with decorum when interacting with the faculty and staff members of the institute.
  4. Students shall refrain from using abusive, inflammatory, or threatening language when communicating with fellow students and should strictly avoid violence.
  5. Students shall not engage in any activities outside the institution that would bring disrepute to the institute.
  6. Ragging and any form of harassment within or outside the campus are strictly prohibited by law. Students found involved in such activities will be rusticated from the institute.
  7. Students should act responsibly and not cause harm or damage to the institute's buildings, books, equipment, furniture, etc. The cost of any damage caused will be recovered from the student.
  8. Students must carry their institute identity cards at all times while on the premises and during institute functions. Entry into the institute premises will be granted only upon showing the identity card to the security guard.
  9. Students should contribute to keeping the campus clean and tidy. Spitting, littering, and writing on walls are strictly prohibited within the institute premises.
  10. Students are expected to regularly read notices/circulars displayed on the notice board. Ignorance of not reading any notice or circular will not be accepted as an excuse for failing to comply with the directions stated in them.
  11. No notice of any kind shall be circulated among students or displayed on notice boards or anywhere without the written permission and approval of the principal.
  12. Students should help in maintaining the beauty, tranquility, and greenery of the campus. Suggestions for campus beautification and development are always welcome.
  13. The management or director/principal's decision shall be final in all matters of student punishment for violating any of the institute's rules and regulations.
  14. Smoking is strictly prohibited within the institute premises.
  15. If any student gets hurt due to any incident in the institute, they should file a complaint with the principal and not with any outside authority unless permitted by the principal.
  16. Any political or immoral activity is strictly prohibited within or around the institute premises.
  17. Students are required to adhere to the prescribed uniform policy while attending the institute.
  18. The institute will not be responsible for the loss of any mail/valuables sent to a student at the institute's address.
  19. The institute is not responsible for any loss or damage regarding the students' belongings.
  20. Cars/motorbikes/bicycles should be parked in the assigned parking lots only. Students should properly lock their vehicles. The institute administration shall not be responsible for any loss or damage.
  21. Providing false information on the application form may result in expulsion from the institute.
  22. The institute reserves the right to make, amend, and introduce any rule as deemed appropriate.
  23. If a student fails to submit institute dues for a period of one month, their name will be struck off from the institute roll.
  24. 24. The institute has the right to take any disciplinary, administrative, and legal action against defaulting students. This may include withholding examination admission forms, release of examination roll numbers, withholding examination result cards, or any other appropriate action due to the following reasons:
    • Poor Attendance
    • Non-payment of Institute Dues
    • Poor overall Academic Record
    • Failure in the Institute Examinations
    • Misconduct
    • Any other reason not specifically mentioned herein
  25. Students may be eligible for benefits such as concessions and scholarships based on fulfilling attendance requirements and observing the fee schedule. However, applications for fee concessions must be submitted within the specified time frame. Applications received after the deadline will not be entertained. A minimum attendance of 90% is required for scholarships and 80% for other concessions.
  26. Any fee concession, prize, or scholarship is granted at the discretion of the institute administration and can be withdrawn at any time.
  27. No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and institute leaving certificates will only be issued if the student has paid all their dues until the submission date of the application for these documents.
  28. Students may apply for the cancellation of their admission (subject to the permission of the principal) within 15 days after admission, but no fee refund shall be provided.
  29. Despite all necessary arrangements, the institute is not responsible for any mishap during institute tours and functions.
